At Guida Jewelers, we know that jewelry cleaning is an important part of keeping your engagement ring and other fine jewelry as bright and as gorgeous as the day you put them on. It’s no secret that cleaning jewelry not only maintains its shine and appearance, but it can also extend the life of your jewelry, too.
As Morris County’s premier bridal jeweler, we are here to assist you in caring for your jewelry. Below are the tips we recommend and the best ways to care for, maintain, and clean your jewelry.
Protect your fine and bridal jewelry from the start with jewelers insurance.
Daily Usage
As you wear your jewelry day-in and day-out, you should be aware of how to maintain it to ensure it remains in tip-top shape.
Wearing Your Jewelry
When it comes to your fine jewelry, especially your bridal jewelry, it’s important to protect them from the harsh chemicals in perfumes, lotions, makeup, and cleaning products. Certain chemicals can discolor and even damage gold, silver, and platinum, so it is important to remove rings, bracelets, necklaces before using lotion, putting on perfume and makeup, or cleaning with a household cleaning product, such as bleach.
When hot summer days come around, you may be tempted to jump into the first swimming pool you see. Be sure to remove your jewelry before diving in, however, as the chlorine in pools can damage them.
It is not recommended that you wear fine jewelry while doing any kind of labor or exercise. Regardless, at the end of the day, we at Guida Jewelers recommend using a clean, soft cloth to rid your jewelry of any oils or perspiration.
Storing Your Jewelry
To prevent any scratches, scuffs, or marks on your precious jewelry, you should store your jewelry individually and separate from one another so as to prevent different pieces of jewelry from coming into contact with each other.
Helpful Hint: Store your jewelry in the boxes they came in to keep them safely stored.
Cleaning Your Jewelry
It is highly recommended to leave the cleaning of your fine jewelry in the hands of one of Guida Jeweler’s highly-trained professionals at least once a year. This will ensure a thorough inspection and cleaning of your jewelry with our high quality service.
While many pieces of jewelry can be cleaned at home with warm, soapy water, it is recommended that antique jewelry, gemstones, and highly precious jewelry (such as your engagement ring) be brought to Guida Jewelers where our expert staff can assist in cleaning and caring for your fine jewelry, as certain pieces require special care beyond what you may be able to do on your own.
If you do decide to use warm, soapy water and a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your jewelry at home, do so at a table or over the counter as opposed to in the sink – you wouldn’t want your jewelry to slip down the drain!
Repairing Your Jewelry
Inspect your jewelry often so that you are always aware of its condition and can notice any damages sooner rather than later.
If your jewelry has suffered any damage, please bring it to Guida Jewelers in Morris County, New Jersey. By cleaning, continuing to wear, or trying to repair your jewelry, you may run the risk of further damaging it further. Let us ensure that your jewelry is well-taken care of and repaired like new with our expert, high-quality service.
